Clifton is currently seeking a highly skilled Senior Railway Design Engineer to join our team in Calgary, Sasakatoon, or Regina. In this role, you will be an integral part of Clifton’s Civil Engineering practice, collaborating with a diverse team of engineering professionals and technical staff. You will lead the planning, design, and delivery of rail infrastructure projects, encompassing track engineering, alignment design, project management, and various railway disciplines related to civil engineering. Your role will ensure that all projects adhere to industry standards and regulations, contributing to the successful execution of our rail initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and/or support the planning, design, and execution of rail/civil infrastructure and capital expansion projects, including new customer sidings, loop tracks, intermodal, storage and classification yards, utility crossings, and public works projects.
Prepare detailed engineering reports, operating plans, proposals, and technical documentation for rail/civil projects.
Collaborate with project managers, engineers, designers and drafters to ensure project requirements are met.
Act as a subject matter expert, providing guidance in the evaluation, selection, and application of engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria for rail/civil engineering projects.
Perform or supervise engineering inspections of construction of rail/civil engineering projects.
Maintain positive client relations, regularly monitoring to ensure clients requirements are met.
Ensure effective project management, including accountability for financial and technical performance within your area of practice.
Business development, including recruitment of new clients and new sectors of the economy not presently served by Clifton.
Adapting Clifton’s Quality Management System into project delivery.
Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field, from an accredited post-secondary institution.
Registered, or eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Alberta (APEGA) or another Canadian jurisdiction, as required.
Minimum of ten (10) years of relevant experience in rail engineering and track design, with a focus on project management.
Familiarity with Canadian rail industry standards and regulations; Experience with the standards of various railway customers (CN, CP, VIA Rail, etc.) an asset.
Broad technical and management skills with the focus and capability to provide services as a subject matter expert.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work independently or in multidisciplinary teams.
Proficiency with computer assisted engineering and design software, including AutoCAD Civil 3D, and others.
Strong organizational skills, including effective management of multiple and conflicting priorities with a demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, in the context of work/life balance.
Proficient with the Microsoft Office suite of products.
Continued attention to safety and safe work environments, with a strong workplace safety orientation.
