Assisted Living Alberta (ALA) is seeking a dynamic and strategic Executive Director, Finance to help shape the future of continuing care in the province. As a senior financial leader with a strong background in public sector finance, you bring expertise in managing complex budgets, navigating regulatory frameworks, and driving performance in large-scale organizations. The Executive Director, Finance reports directly to the Chief Administrative and Financial Officer and serves as a key member and trusted advisor to the senior leadership team.

ALA is a newly established provincial organization under the oversight of Assisted Living and Social Services (ALSS) committed to transforming Alberta’s continuing care system. This system includes both Continuing Care and Home & Community Care and is focused on providing wraparound supports to ensure all Albertans can access the care they need, when and where they need it – regardless of age, diagnosis, or duration of need.

By addressing systemic challenges such as long wait times, limited access for individuals with complex needs, and healthcare system pressures, ALA seeks to deliver timely, integrated, and innovative care solutions.

Description:

The Executive Director (ED), Finance provides strategic financial leadership and expertise on financial planning, risk management, compliance, and overall financial performance for Alberta Assisted Living (ALA). The position oversees the financial operations and fiscal integrity of Alberta Assisted Living, ensuring sound financial stewardship, regulatory compliance, and effective resource allocation in support of ALA’s mission.

The Executive Director, Finance implements effective financial controls and supports organizational decision-making through data-driven financial insights. You establish and maintain positive relationships with local, provincial, and national representatives and stakeholders, including Alberta’s diverse regional corridors, government departments, officials, and the Shared Services Organization to provide leadership and oversight of financial programs and services. The Executive Director, Finance works in alignment with the broader financial policies and procedures and ensures the delivery of finance services and resources as set out in the service agreement with the Shared Services Organization.

You maintain transparency, accountability, and sound ethical conduct in all financial matters, and ensure appropriate resources are provided to advance organizational priorities. The ED, Finance partners with ALA’s Continuing Care funding team and the Assistant Deputy Minister, Financial Services and the CAFO to align budget and funding requirements.

The location of this position is negotiable anywhere within the province of Alberta.

Required Qualifications:

The successful candidate possesses a bachelor’s degree in accounting, business or finance, and must possess a professional accounting designation (CPA) or similar (CA, CMA, or CGA) in good standing. A minimum of ten (10) years of progressive experience in financial management, including at least three (3) years in a leadership or supervisory role is required. You provide demonstrated expertise in budgeting, financial reporting, and financial analysis in a complex organizational environment. A combination of education, experience and skills may be considered.

Additional Required Qualifications:

You bring with you extensive experience with risk management, internal controls, process optimization, and regulatory compliance, as well as strong proficiency with financial systems and software, including ERP systems and advanced Excel skills. In addition to your exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities, with a focus on accuracy and attention to detail, you possess outstanding communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively engage and collaborate with diverse partners.

The ED, Finance has a proven track record in overseeing day-to-day transactional finance functions (e.g., accounts payable/receivable, payroll, treasury), and in designing and improving financial processes and systems for maximum efficiency and accuracy. You model business intelligence and are skilled at identifying, assessing, and mitigating financial risks while ensuring full compliance with applicable policies and standards.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree in accounting, business, or finance. Experience in healthcare, assisted living, or not-for-profit preferred. Knowledge of Alberta’s financial and regulatory environment, shared service agreements, and large Shared Services Organizations an asset. Experience leading financial operations in growing or new organizations, with innovation focus. Strong project management and process improvement experience preferred.

Pay: $63.41-$114.15 per hour
