These staff members are in the first 90 calendar days of work. This probationary period may be extended past 90 days if performance requirements are not met. The primary goal of these employees is to learn and demonstrate all the tasks and skills required to function as an independent ski patroller and be promoted to a ski patroller – Grade 1. The incumbent should expect to be working outside in any, all and sometimes adverse/extreme weather conditions. This is a full-time seasonal role within the Safety Operations Department. This position has a compressed schedule/two-week rotating cycle: Nine (9) hours per day (operating season), eight (8) hours per day (non-operating season). Alberta Employment Standards regarding probationary periods apply. Job Duties/Responsibilities: Work in a safe and efficient manner as a member of the Safety Operations team Learn demonstrate the expected tasks and skills required to function as an independent ski patroller Learn the skills and demonstrate that you can provide on-hill rescue and first aid. Learn the skills and demonstrate that you can be a Team Member during lift evacuation(s) Learn and demonstrate basic AvSar skills to act as a Team Member during avalanche rescue Learn about and skillfully and consistently Identify and mitigate hazards on hill Perform trail maintenance, as required Identify and address safety concerns pertaining to staff and guests. Ensure supervisors are made aware of residual risks of concern Respect and adhere to the company’s policies and procedures as set in the “Corporate Policies”, “Employee Handbook” and “Safety Operations Training Manual”. Understand and adhere to Ski Marmot Basin’s “Harassment Policy” and the company’s “Privacy Policy”. Report any damage to vehicles to the Vehicle Maintenance supervisor. Other duties, as assigned by your supervisor Position Requirements English Fluency Level required for position Intermediate Job Requirements Strong skiing ability in all mountainous conditions Physically fit and able to ski with heavy loads (25+ kgs) 80 hour advanced First Aid course or higher accreditation. CPR current certification Avalanche Skills Training Course Level 1 (preferred) or other equivalent CAA accreditation Canadian Avalanche Association Industry Training Program level 1 (preferred) Have a vulnerable persons record check on file with Marmot Basin Human resources. Provided to the DPS a criminal record check on the first day of work and have an application into Natural resources Canada Explosives Regulatory Division to obtain a letter of approval. Rope training, snowmobile experience, practical first aid experience are all assets Alberta Class 5 Driver’s license or equivalent.
