Job Description

As a Captain Server with Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge, you will be an ambassador for the exceptional service and cuisine that are hallmarks of our dining experience. Your engaging and anticipatory service will inspire the team and ensure the success of our banquet functions and outlet operations. Working with both our banquet and outlet operations will provide exposure to all facets of the Food & Beverage operation.

What you will be doing:

Reporting to the F&B Manager, responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:

Consistently offer professional, friendly and engaging service
Follow outlet policies, procedures and service standards
Assist guests regarding menu items in an informative and helpful way
Take an active role with the training and development of new and existing staff
Project a pleasant and professional image to guests at all times
Build and maintain a high level of customer service and staff morale through outlet promotions and staff incentive programs
Assist management team to develop action plans to improve outlet performance
Ensure that the outlet is operating within the confines of the ALCB regulations
Have full knowledge of all menu items, garnishes, contents and preparation methods
Have full knowledge of beverage lists and promotions
Responsible for preparing and serving cocktails and other beverages on a daily basis
Deliver and present food items to guest tables
Assist and lead the function team in setting up and tearing down function spaces
Process guest checks in a timely and efficient manner
Bus and re-set tables
Perform opening, cleaning and closing duties
Report any irregularities or comments from guests
Adhere to the hotel’s vehicle handling and safety policies while driving hotel vehicles
Follow all safety and sanitation policies when handling food and beverage
Help lead the F&B Outlet team in all aspects of the department and ensure service standards are followed
Handle guest concerns and react quickly and professionally in absence of manager
Attend regularly scheduled departmental and divisional meetings
Maximize revenues by communicating regularly with the Food & Beverage teams to implement agreed upon strategies, practices and promotions
Support employees while ensuring service standards are maintained
Other duties as assigned
Check all colleagues tip outs prior to drop at EOD
Walk through all FOH spaces at EOD to ensure proper tear down and cleaning procedures
Ensure appropriate staffing levels day of, and make informed decisions to cut staff, with the approval of manger on duty
Assign sections based on staffing levels / business needs
Double check opening / closing duties checklist and follow up with colleagues accordingly
Verify colleague cash outs prior to sending server/ bartenders home per accounting remittance policies
Delegate and assign side duties and verify completion prior to sending staff home
Approve discounts and promos as per in house policies

Qualifications

Your experience and skills include:

Minimum 1 years serving experience required (must include at least 6 months a la carte service)
Previous leadership experience required
Valid Alberta driver’s license required
Excellent knowledge of wine, cocktails and beer required
Pro Serve certification required
Banquets experience preferred
Micros POS experience an asset
Excellent communication and organizational skills
Strong interpersonal and problem solving abilities
Highly responsible & reliable
Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment
Ability to work cohesively with fellow colleagues as part of a team with minimum supervision
Ability to focus attention on guest needs, remaining calm and courteous at all times

Visa Requirements: Must be legally eligible to work in Canada. The hotel is unable to assist candidates in obtaining Canadian work authorization.
