Job Description

Assistant Chief Steward (Full Time)

Every memorable dining experience at Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge begins behind the scenes with our Food & Beverage team’s commitment to safe and efficient operations. Support a skilled and engaged team as Assistant Chief Steward, where your care and inspection of all flatware, tableware and kitchen equipment will ensure a superior standard

What you will be doing:

Reporting to the Chief Steward, responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:

Consistently offering professional, engaging and friendly service.
Ensuring the highest degree of cleanliness and maintenance in accordance with Fairmont Hotels & Resorts standards, policies and procedures.
Lead, teach, coach and inspire a team of 30 including a supervisor.
Conduct semi-annual and periodic inventories to ensure par stocks and resource availability are maintained within all Food and Beverage outlets and kitchens and determine breakage
Conduct daily inspections of all Food and Beverage areas and kitchens on a daily basis to ensure cleanliness and compliance with local health/sanitation codes
Assist in the correct ordering and usage of all chemicals within the department and outlets, including appropriate training in accordance with provincial WHMIS legislation
Attend any required meetings including Department Head meetings, weekly Food and Beverage division meetings and stewarding meetings
Assist the Chief Steward with the recruitment, orientation, training and scheduling of all colleagues and supervisors
Assist the Chief Steward to exceed budgetary guidelines for operating supplies and labor
Provide support and direction to the team of leaders within Stewarding with respect to performance management and continuous learning
Foster an environment of cooperation within the department and between other departments within the hotel
Encourage participation and input from all colleagues while promoting professional work habits that will ensure that the department is being guided at all time by Fairmont's Mission, Vision and Values
Have a proactive eye for detail and cleanliness
Review banquet event orders to forecast equipment and supply requirements
Actively participate in all of the hotel's committees
Compliance with all safety regulations of assigned tasks and ensure a clean, safe working environment with active participation in the hotel's health and safety program
Adhere to all environmental policies and programs as required
Other reasonable duties as assigned

Qualifications

Your experience and skills include:

2 years leadership experience within the Stewarding department required or management experience within Food and Beverage
Must have valid drivers license class 5 and be able to obtain an Alberta Drivers license
Diploma or Degree in Hospitality Management an asset
Excellent communication (written & verbal) and interpersonal skills
Must be computer strong with knowledge of Excel, Word, and electronic mail
Completion of Train the Trainer & Interaction Management an asset
Must be results orientated, self-motivated, highly organized with an eye for detail
Must be committed to safety and good environmental practices in the work place
Ability to work in a fast paced, diverse environment
Excellent problem solver and decision maker

Visa Requirements: Must be legally eligible to work in Canada. The hotel is unable to assist candidates in obtaining Canadian work authorization.
