Job Description

As a carpenter at the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge your care and attention to detail will ensure that our guests have a memorable stay in the Canadian Rockies.

What you will be doing:

Reporting to the Director of Engineering, responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:

Maintaining and repairing all buildings and related material, both interior and exterior to an acceptable standard by The Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge and related/applicable codes and regulations
Ensuring that all power tools either portable or permanently installed will be in good and safe working condition
Ensuring that all work orders assigned to the department will be done with the least possible delay, especially where guest comfort is concerned
Training and assisting the shift maintenance people to carry out their duties in a safe and efficient manner
Assisting other trades with tasks that need the expertise of a journeyman
Communicating effectively and professionally with both guests and colleagues
Adhering to the hotel’s vehicle handling and safety policies while driving hotel and guest vehicles.
Other related duties as assigned.
Operate the facility in an environmentally friendly way, recycling all materials when available
Ensuring that vehicles do not idle

Qualifications

Your experience and skills include:

Provincial Journeyperson’s certificate for Province of Alberta required or third of fourth year in the Apprentice program required
High school and/or technical school education requirements to satisfy Trade School
Entrance requirements as per Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training Board
General knowledge or experience of the carpentry trade
Meet the minimum expectations of the Heart of House Perceiver Interview
Proficient in Microsoft Windows applications required ( Word, Excel & Power Point )
Valid Alberta driver’s license required
Excellent communication and organizational skills
Strong interpersonal and problem solving abilities
Highly responsible & reliable
Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment
Ability to work cohesively with fellow colleagues as part of a team with minimum supervision
Ability to focus attention on guest needs, remaining calm and courteous at all times

Fast-paced, upscale, luxury hotel
Close proximity to Marmot Basin Ski Resort in winter and world-renowned hiking trails in summer
Hospitality employees worldwide making this a great place to develop lifelong connections
Standing: 4-8 hr/day
Sitting: 4-8 hr/day
Walking: 4-8 hr/day
Bending/reaching: 4-8 hr/day
Pushing/pulling: 4-8 hr/day
Physical effort: high – must be able to lift up to 40 lbs
Environmental Stress: busy atmosphere, working inside and outside

Additional Information

Visa Requirements: Must be legally eligible to work in Canada. The hotel is unable to assist candidates in obtaining Canadian work authorization.
