MAIN PURPOSE:
Reporting to the Superintendent or Project Manager, the Foreman is responsible for managing and directing a crew of workers to deliver a successful project by meeting or exceeding corporate and project goals. The Signal Foreman must ensure safety, quality, profitability, and scheduling, resulting in customer satisfaction.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

An emphasis on safety is critical for all employees. This can be a high risk environment as you will be working around heavy moving equipment
Review all contracts, project documentation and plans to ensure that the work in the field is built to the most recent specifications and scope of work
Pre-plan work activities with Superintendent to develop best means and methods, including safety action plans
Plan the day to day operations on the assigned project, and ensure that proper resources are in place for the timely completion of work i.e., labor, equipment and materials
Take responsibility for crew performance as related to company goals, safety audits, administration of company policies and procedures.
Conduct tailgate meetings.
Initiate follow-up action as necessary including training, orientation, discipline, etc.
Conduct daily briefing with crew to review production goals, performance feedback, safety and schedule, hazards and to solicit feedback from the workers
Maintain a dedication to safety at all times by modelling, providing education and enforcing safe work practices, company policies and procedures. Ensure that proper safety equipment is available and used by all field personnel
Communicate with the Project Superintendent, Project Manager and customer to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction
Perform a variety of related administrative tasks such as production reports, timesheets, equipment logs, inspection reports, change orders and updating project files
Provide coaching and instruction to all crew members
General labor duties as required
Other duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:The successful candidate for this role will demonstrate the following skills and experiences:

Basic understanding of survey grades and construction methods
Ability to work with MS applications (Word, Excel and Outlook)
Ability to read instructions, follow technical specifications and grade plans.
Ability to perform various types of physical labour including moderate to heavy lifting, standing, bending, shovelling, etc.
Sound understanding of safety regulations, safe work practices and work procedures and be capable of assisting in maintaining safe work sites
Ability to work independently or as part of a team
Perform duties in inclement weather, with possible exposure to severe weather conditions
Proficiency in the safe operation and maintenance of various related equipment and tools
Ability to maintain concentration and mental alertness in a variety of situations
Knowledge of workplace safety requirements and procedures
Knowledge of equipment maintenance and storage
Strong analytical and problem solving skills
Strong stress management and time management skills
JOB REQUIREMENTS:

A high school diploma with at least 1 year full time work experience as a Signals Foreman
Education or experience in Electronics/Electrical is considered an asset
Previous railway or construction experience is considered an asset
A Valid Class 3 License is an asset
Valid CROR and Crane Operator courses are considered an asset
