Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit, including GO Expansion, Light Rail Transit routes, and major expansions to Toronto’s subway system, to get people where they need to go, better, faster and easier. Our Bus Operations East Office is looking for a Manager, Bus Operations to provide technical leadership and direction for the safe, reliable, and effective operation of a comprehensive Bus Transit network within the area of GO Transit jurisdiction to meet customer performance expectations of on-time and quality service.


What will I be doing?
Plans, implements, and manages the operation of the GO Transit Bus Network and any contracted services.
Manages the planning, justification, recruitment, and training of the resources required for all new bus services, enhancements, and bus rapid transit initiatives.
Ensures compliance to legislation related to environmental issues, Ministry of Transportation (MTO) requirements, employment standards, and the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
Manages the development of accessible bus services in accordance with corporate objectives.
Manages bus information systems to provide accurate and timely data pertaining to service delivery and planning activities.
Manages the operational aspects of service integration, fare integration, and intermodal transfers at various terminal locations.
Ensures that customer enquiries and complaints are tracked, investigated, and receive responses.
Develops, updates, and manages operational emergency response plans and activities.
Manages operational planning to ensure appropriate service levels that meet customer requirements.
Manages the effective and efficient delivery of driver safety and training programs.
Manages bus passenger transportation services and service planning activities to achieve operational improvements and service modifications as well as implementing new services, including BRT (Bus Rapid Transit).
Develops, reviews, and approves operating budgets related to Bus Operations.
Provides creative thought leadership with input from others to develop and deploy a strategic vision; connects and aligns projects with strategic corporate goals.
Directly supervises more than 15 employees and supervises a large department of over 100 staff members within the constraints of a unionized work force of bargaining unit and non-bargaining unit staff members through subordinate supervisors.
Manages daily bargaining unit issues and develops negotiation strategies (e.g. conducts and participates in the grievance, arbitration, and Collective Bargaining processes).
What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?
Completion of a degree or diploma in Business Administration, or a related discipline or combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent.
Demonstrated experience in providing leadership and direction in the operation of a comprehensive bus transit network.
Must possess a CZ license with good driving record.
