What to expect from this role?

General file handling and practice management for Civil Litigation Matters
Arrange and assist with drafting of standard pleadings and arrange for service and filing of court documents and other duties as required.
Assist in file management duties such as opening to closing of files in a paperless environment, including organizing materials and assisting lawyers with preparations for questioning, mediations/JDR, and various other attendances.
Conduct conflict searches, open and close files, including assisting lawyers with file and limitation lists and tracking tasks with TeamConnect.
Independently manage assigned tasks, using effective time management and communication skills to help move matters to resolution through the litigation process.
Draft correspondence and other documents as instructed to clients, third parties, experts, etc.
Assist lawyers with litigation management, including prioritizing of tasks and scheduling of client meetings, questionings, mediations/JDR etc.
Assist with office administrative tasks such as ordering supplies and attending to vendor payments.
Provide input into the procedures and practices.
Display initiative in assisting lawyers with litigation management, including prioritizing of tasks with file, limitation lists and tracking tasks with TeamConnect and scheduling of client meetings, questioning and mediations. including assisting lawyers
What you bring to this role?

Minimum 3 years of experience as a legal assistant or equivalent for a litigation department/legal team practicing civil litigation in Alberta (ideally insurance defence or personal injury practice)
Knowledge of Alberta Court rules, practice directions and procedures
Strong document management skills with the ability to learn and utilize Definity’s various software programs such as TeamConnect
Demonstrated proficiency with Outlook and all MS Office applications.
Ability to prioritize, organize and execute tasks in a quality manner with strong turnaround time.
High degree of personal ethics, integrity and responsibility with an ability to deal with sensitive issues and safeguard privileged and confidential information.
Great attention to detail with proof reading skills
Ability to perform under pressure, meet deadlines and handle multiple, yet sometimes conflicting priorities.
Preference will be given to graduates of a Legal Assistant or Paralegal diploma program.
Team player, adaptable to a changing environment
Ability to work in a paperless environment.
High degree of proficiency in English is required to service customers, both internal to the company and external, across Canada.

Salary Range: $43,700 - $80,500
