Duties
Provides general maintenance, repair and labour services to support grounds, roads, trails and facilities maintenance; construction and installations; and other general maintenance and repair requirements for Parks Canada Agency.

Work environment
Parks Canada is a federal government agency responsible for the protection and presentation of Canada’s outstanding natural and cultural resources through a system of national parks, national marine conservation areas and national historic sites in all regions of Canada.

Jasper National Park is the largest national park in the Canadian Rockies covering over 11,000 square kilometers. Situated within this is an extensive historic trail network with over 1000km of trails ranging from easily accessible and family friendly front country trails to iconic multi day backcountry trails passing though the remote wilderness of Jasper National Park.

Work alongside a professional team to help build and maintain the trails, bridges, campgrounds and other facilities in Jasper National Park.

Intent of the process
The results of this process will be used to fill potential year round and seasonal, indeterminate/term/acting/assignment GL MAN 03 (Trail Crew Member) vacancies that may arise in the Jasper Field Unit with full or part-time hours for various tenures.

Education:
Completion of secondary school or Public Service Commission approved alternative.

Degree equivalency

Acceptable* experience:
Performing routine maintenance tasks including general repairs to trails, roads, bridges, buildings and other facilities.
Carrying out construction tasks in a team environment.
Working in remote areas.
In the use of hand and power tools including chainsaws.
Working with light equipment such as mini excavators, skid steers, tractors and trailers.

Acceptable experience refers to a minimum of 1 years’ experience

ADDITIONAL OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION
Successful completion of the 40-hour Wilderness First Aid course or higher level First Aid.
Chainsaw Certification
ATV Operators Certificate
Snowmobile operators certificate
Conditions of employment
Reliability Status security clearance - • Maintenance of a valid Class 5 Driver’s License (Class L, N or other graduated license will not be accepted).
Willingness to undergo and pass pre-placement and periodic medical checks.
Willingness to undertake vaccinations for Tetanus, Hepatitis and Rabies.
Willingness to wear a Parks Canada uniform and personal protective equipment.
Willingness to provide and wear appropriate footwear.
Willingness to work irregular hours, overtime, weekends and / or statutory holidays and provincial / territorial holidays.
Willingness to travel and work in the Jasper Field Unit.
Extensive physical effort required to hike and / or work for prolonged periods of time.
Be exposed to potential for injury when performing trail maintenance activities.
Occasionally demonstrate tasks to others.
Must be able to live and work for up to 10 days duration in a remote location, and in varied weather conditions
Willingness to complete a certified chainsaw course.
