Conducts highway/road clearing and snow removal using medium and heavy vehicles (Wheel loader, grader, skid
steer) and equipment requiring a Class 1 license with air brake endorsement; operates/controls multiple blades and
salting mechanisms; and performs a variety of highway/road maintenance tasks for the Parks Canada Agency.

Intent of the process

The current need is for various term positions in Jasper, AB however, a qualified list may be established to fill current
and future vacancies of various tenures - term, indeterminate year-round, seasonal - throughout the Highway Operations Unit as well as similar positions in various locations

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION:
Class 1 driver’s license with air brake endorsement

EXPERIENCE
Experience driving heavy trucks
Experience operating heavy equipment

KNOWLEDGE

Knowledge of highway maintenance and traffic control procedures.

Knowledge of safety measures and regulations common to highway maintenance.

ABILITIES

Ability to operate heavy trucks up to GVW 60,000 pounds

Ability to visually inspect equipment and perform pre and post trip maintenance

Ability to assess and report on road, visibility and weather conditions.

ASSET ABILITIES

Ability to operate standard transmission trucks (10 – 18 speed) up to GVW 60,000 pounds.

Ability to use computer systems, including email, Word, and internet

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Required to wear identifier clothing and required safety equipment.

Required to travel over roads closed to the general public and to work under avalanche hazard conditions.

Required to travel and/or work in a variety of weather conditions and terrain for extended periods of time.

Required to work shift work – during day – and nighttime hours, overtime, weekends, and/or statutory holidays, provincial/territorial holidays, and call back or standby duty.

Candidates will be required to undergo and meet the requirements for a medical examination/pre-employment medical examinations and/or periodic medical checks.

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance

Maintenance of a valid Class 1 license with Air Brake endorsement

Willing and able to lift up to 23 kg without the use of lifting aids
