Full job description
Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit, including GO Expansion, Light Rail Transit routes, and major expansions to Toronto’s subway system, to get people where they need to go, better, faster, and easier. Our Bus Fleet Maintenance and Engineering Office is looking for Bus Shunter who under the supervision of the Supervisor, Bus Fleet Control, will provide Pickup and deliver busses to and from all MX locations, garages, and vendors across the GTA region to support the Bus Fleet Maintenance program

Shift Details:

Location : Streetsville Garage
Shift time : 10:00 pm – 08:00 am
Shift Days: Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday
Off Days : Tuesday ,Wednesday and Thursday
What will I be doing?

Operating buses to various garages and routes operated by GO Transit in a safe, timely and efficient manner
Performs pre and post-trip bus inspections in accordance with the most current regulations, as described by Metrolinx Reports any defects to Supervisor, and records in Daily Vehicle Inspection Record “DVIR” book.
Performs other duties as assigned and agreed upon with the Union, including non-driving duties
Pickup and deliver busses to and from all MX locations, garages, and vendors across the GTA region.
Perform terminal, garage yard and highway shunting duties (moving of buses for repair) to assist with MX outbound and inbound passenger and maintenance delivery mandate.
Perform as directed bus change offs for driver, passenger and maintenance for service failure and service recovery.
Drive/direct equipment as required into any maintenance, terminal, or vendor facility for purpose of service failure recovery and fleet repair mandate.
Track and record as required fleet km/mileage readings, DVIR, M7, Fuel and licensing/inspection documents required to stored on the bus. Ensure all documents are vailed in coaches prior to driving.
Under the direction of BFC Controllers improve garage flow management and efficiencies to reduce MX fleet out of service and improve KPI targets.
Deliver parts as required to facilitate repairs for vendors, mobile service trucks or garage locations.
On coach pickup from vendors complete full circle check, ensure repairs completed per work order, documents MTO / Schedule 4 is valid and on return advise BFM team of coach return.
Performs road test for the on-site vendor support coach technicians as required.
Various other jobs to assist BFC in day-to-day operations.
What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?

Level of reading, writing, and learning skills normally attained through High school education.
Must have a current and valid Ontario Class “G” driver’s licence or higher for a minimum of two (2) years with no more than two (2) demerit points and have no pending charges under the Highway Traffic Act that may result in two (2) or more demerit points.
Must meet corporate standard for a good driving record.
Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Class “C” driver’s licence and “Z” endorsement.
Must successfully complete New Driver Training program.
Must be able to obtain and maintain Emergency First Aid certification.
Must successfully complete all training required by corporate policy.
Must demonstrate characteristics and temperament indicative of an appropriate level of public relations aptitude.
Maintains record/daily log of driving hours (CVOR)
Participates in on-the-job training. Performs other duties as assigned to meet departmental objectives.
Experience driving a commercial vehicle or other large vehicle is an asset
Ability to provide assistance to patrons and emergency services (under direction from Operations Control)
interpersonal skills to maintain customer relations
Good verbal communication skills to communicate with customers & other teams in various situations (detours, emergency info, etc.)
Requires the ability to receive, understand and follow instructions audibly in the field on a regular basis
Ability to obtain & maintain a valid CZ licence as per MTO requirements
Bona Fide Requirements: Ability to lift 8-20 kg and push 8-25 kg on a daily basis
WORKING CONDITIONS AND LEVEL OF EFFORT

Is in constant sitting position for extended periods of time without relief. Needs high degree of visual concentration. May be exposed to variable weather conditions for short periods, also noise, fumes, dirt, dust Will work at night. Must be able and willing to work rotating shift work, including split shifts, 24 hours per day, 7 days per week plus statutory holidays, and comply with Ontario Commercial Driving Hours of Service regulations.
