Position: Museum General Manager

Closing Date: Friday, November 24, 2023

Location: Jasper, Alberta

Open to: Residents of Jasper or people who live within commuting distance. Staff accommodation and/or remote work are not available for this position.

Start Date: January 2, 2024. This process is anticipatory to provide qualified candidates in the event the recruitment process proceeding from recently qualified candidates is unsuccessful.

Salary: $64000 - $69000 depending on experience Job Description The Jasper-Yellowhead Historical Society (JYHS) is seeking a general manager to oversee the Jasper Museum, its galleries, archives, programs, gift shop and employees. The general manager reports to the non-profit Jasper-Yellowhead Historical Society board of directors.

Job Duties and Requirements:

- Manage the museum within the strategic framework, business plan and annual operating plans and budgets

- Manage museum assets, resources and infrastructure within the boundaries established by the board through the annual budget and the JYHS guidelines and policies  Oversee, recruit, motivate, and train museum staff; foster an inclusive and respectful working environment

- Meet regularly with staff; provide regular performance evaluations and provide opportunity for staff involvement in planning and developing community programs and services

- Present a positive public image of the JYHS and develop partnerships with stakeholders by establishing an effective communications, marketing and public relations strategy

- Establish and review policies and procedures including disaster, evacuation, and fire plans

- Responsible for the day-to-day financial management of the museum

- Working with the board to develop an annual budget and three-year plan, ensuring the fiscal soundness and sustainability of the organization

- Attend monthly board meetings and serve as an advisor to the board on policy and administration issues

- Willingness to work some evenings and weekends

-Ability to sit or stand for long durations, move or lift tables, chairs, artifacts etc.

- Adherence to the Principles and Guidelines for Alberta’s Museum Community

Ability to perform a variety of administrative tasks including record and file management, email correspondence, and event coordination; strong organizational and time management skills

Experience supervising a team and cultivating a positive work environment by nurturing professional growth and boosting team morale

Familiarity and comfort with Microsoft365 (e.g. Excel, Word, Outlook, Sharepoint)  Knowledge of museum operations, including collections management, exhibit development, and visitor services

Experience in fundraising, grant writing and securing external funding preferred

Experience working in a museum or related organization preferred
