Work environment Mechanics for the Highway Operations Unit are an integral part to our daily operations. Individuals will service, inspect and repair various pieces of on-road equipment within the fleet; the vast majority of these being heavy duty equipment including: tandem-axle dump trucks, wheel loaders and graders. In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications) Heavy Equipment Technician Certified Journeyman If insufficient applications are received, consideration may be given to 3rd year heavy duty apprentices. Class 5 driver's license or provincial equivalent EXPERIENCE EX1: Experience in the maintenance and repair of heavy duty trucks and equipment. EX2: Experience in the repair of diesel- and gas-powered engines including internal combustion engines, transmissions, suspensions, electrical, steering, braking, and drive systems. EX3: Experience in the maintenance and repair of hydraulic systems EX4: Experience in the maintenance and repair of air brake systems The following will be applied / assessed at a later date (essential for the job) English essential Information on language requirements KNOWLEDGE K1: Knowledge of preventative maintenance principles, procedures, and regulations. The following may be applied / assessed at a later date (may be needed for the job) ASSET QUALIFICATIONS: AQ1: Possession and maintenance of a class 1, 2, or class 3 driver's license OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS This position requires the incumbent to: Conduct repetitive tasks; Make moderate* to heavy** physical efforts, including lifting supplies, tools and equipment and standing for prolonged periods. Moderate is defined as lifting 50 lbs maximum with frequent lifting/carrying up to 25 lbs. ** Heavy is defined as lifting 100 lbs maximum with frequent lifting/carrying up to 50 lbs. Physical Effort: The work requires working in awkward or confined positions in and under equipment with regular requirements to manipulate heavy objects such as tires, transmissions, transfer boxes, and vehicle attachments. The work requires pulling, pushing, bending, lifting, moving, manipulating and positioning heavy and awkward components and assemblies either by hand or using devices such as slings and other supports. Many objects/components will weigh in excess of 25 kilograms.
