JOB TYPE: Railway Flagging (Track Protection) Foreperson START DATE: Immediately REPORTING TO: Regional Supervisor LOCATION: Multiple positions available across BC & Alberta PLEASE NOTE: This job will require travel throughout multiple cities in your province with the possibility of other cities in your part of the country (For example: If you are located in BC, you will be working throughout BC and possibly Western Canada). RESPONSIBILITIES: Control and direct workgroups on active railway property and construction sites Apply specific railway operating rules, instructions, and techniques when performing these duties Contribute to the safety and efficiency of the workgroups while minimizing delays to railway operations Conduct daily job briefings to outline site specific instructions prior to commencing work Review the work site on a daily basis and consult with the Supervisor and/or contractors to identify potential hazards Maintain a high level of alertness Set up, reposition, and dismantle railway specific signage Communicate effectively with other flagpersons and Rail Traffic Controllers using established procedures and radio equipment to ensure the understanding of instructions, track protection limits, worksite hazards and other specific site conditions Install and dismantles railway signalling devices (flags) at designated locations PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS: Able to demonstrate proficiency in all aspects of railway industry Responsible for various administrative tasks regarding production reports, timekeeping, etc. Perform general labour with crew as required Responsible to ensure compliance to all REMCAN and customer safety policies and procedures POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Minimum of 2 years’ related experience in railway industry Valid driver’s license (Class 5) Can produce driver’s abstract and insurance claims history Pass all required railway operating rules examinations Able to secure eRailSafe certification First Aid and WHMIS are assets Pass pre-employment medical and drug screening Demonstrate an ability to work unsupervised as well as in teams Can work all types of shifts as required Can work in inclement weather all year round Travel to remote work locations as required Track Inspection Guidelines certification is an asset Knowledge of all occupational hazards, railway engineering safety regulations and best safety practices for the work being performed Strong verbal and written communication skills Proficient use of computers, tablets, etc. WHAT REMCAN PROJECTS HAS TO OFFER: Between physical labour, heavy machinery, and emergency repairs, railway maintenance and construction can be a tough environment.
