Duties
Parks Canada seeks an exceptional individual to occupy the role of Plumber Gas Fitter Supervisor at the Jasper Field Unit. This position will offer supervisory and technical guidance in plumbing and gas fitting undertakings for assets located in Jasper National Park and Fort St. James National Historic Site, comprising a mixture of modern and historic structures, recreational facilities, public utilities, and petroleum storage tanks. The successful candidate will oversee a small team of plumbers and actively participate in plumbing and gas fitting operations, while also performing the following key responsibilities:
Contribute to the creation of work plans for maintenance and repairs
Ensure work orders are completed efficiently and effectively
Efficiently manage human and financial resources
Identify issues and develop practical and cost-effective solutions
Offer technical advice to teams and colleagues
Maintain effective communication and coordination with internal stakeholders
Ensure team members are properly trained, equipped with necessary tools, and provided with appropriate PPE to carry out plumbing and gas fitting activities safely
Ensure all repairs adhere to the current National Building Code standards
Work environment
Parks Canada is a federal government agency responsible for the protection and presentation of Canada’s outstanding natural and cultural resources through a system of national parks, national marine conservation areas and national historic sites in all regions of Canada.

EDUCATION
Completion of secondary school or Public Service Commission approved alternative or have an acceptable combination of education training and experience.
Degree equivalency

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION
Alberta Provincial Journeyman Certificate or a Red Seal Interprovincial Certificate in Plumbing and Gas Fitting with a Class B certificate.

Preference may be given to candidates possessing a Class A Gasfitter Certification.
EXPERIENCE
Experience* in the supervision and delivery of minor and major plumbing and gas fitting services;
Experience* in Code Compliance inspections;
Experience* in the supervision of employees involved in plumbing operations;
Experience* in the management of financial resources and contracting for services;
Experience* in the plumbing trade, which includes plumbing, utilities and heating systems;
Experience* researching and implementing current codes, statutes and regulations related to plumbing, gas and utilities services;
Experience* with heating systems and their components;
Experience* in the purchasing of plumbing and gas fitting related items;
Experience* in asset life cycle planning and management.

Experience is defined as having relevant 7 years’ experience within the past 10 years

ABILITIES
Ability to schedule and assign work, set standards and priorities, assess staff performance, and document and implement corrective measures for staff;
Ability to use a computer, maintain work records, and use basic software such as Microsoft Word and Excel;
Ability to review and interpret conceptual/ building/ construction plans (e.g. blue prints and other construction documents);
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing;
Ability to lead hazard assessments and conduct safety meetings for a team.

ADDITIONAL OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION
Certification in Water Treatment, Wastewater Treatment, or Water Distribution.
ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE
Experience in the operation of both water and wastewater treatment systems.
Conditions of employment
You are required to obtain and maintain a Reliability Status security clearance.
You are required to possess and maintain a valid Class 5 driver’s licence (Class L, N or other graduated licenses will not be accepted).
You must be willing to work overtime.
You will be required to work shift-work, and/or weekends, and/or statutory holidays
and provincial/territorial holidays as scheduled by your delegated manager.
You must be willing to work and travel in a variety of terrains and weather conditions in the performance of the duties.
You will be required to work in adverse weather conditions.
You may be required to wear a uniform while performing your duties.
You must be willing and able to wear required safety equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE).
You must be willing to report to work in Jasper National Park.
You must maintain a Red Seal Plumber Certification and minimum Gasfitter – Class B certification.
