HI Athabasca Falls Wilderness Hostel
Jasper National Park, Alberta
CHOP WOOD, CARRY WATER, LIGHT CAMPFIRES, GET PAID!
OK, maybe you won’t get rich – but if you’re looking for a true Canadian Wilderness experience, this job may be for you.
Hostelling International is looking to fill the position of 2 Relief Wilderness Hostel Managers for the 2020 Summer season, May 1 - October 31, 2020. This person travels between two of the Jasper Wilderness hostels - Maligne Canyon and Mt Edith Cavell - or stays at one HI Athabasca Falls - covering the days off of the regular managers at each facility.
These hostels are what we call “rustic”. Either they have no electricity or running water, or just no telephone or internet. For what they lack in modern facilities and connectivity, they more than make up for in other ways; waking up to the peaceful quiet of the Wilderness, being able to count the millions of stars so far away from the city, or simply being surrounded by the vastness and indescribable beauty of rugged mountains, hanging glaciers and 400-metre tall waterfalls.
It's a great job if you want to enjoy quiet, peaceful settings, no TV, campfires and great hiking. The challenge is getting from one hostel to the other, which can be difficult without a car, so candidates with a valid driver's license and access to their own vehicle are preferred.
Reporting to the Manager HI – Jasper Wilderness Properties, the Wilderness Relief Hostel Manager is responsible for all aspects of hostel management in accordance with HI-C-PM Region’s mission and values. The Wilderness Relief Hostel Manager is a one-man show who delivers a clean, organised hostel and excellent customer service. Responsibilities include the opening and closing of the hostel, keeping the hostel clean and well maintained, and being an excellent host for our guests.
The successful candidate will have prior hostel experience, excellent organisational skills, and an understanding of all aspects of customer service. They will also possess the ability to remain composed during high-pressure situations, and be comfortable working alone. Access to own reliable vehicle/transportation is preferred.
The wage for this position is $15.00/hourly and includes a 6% vacation entitlement. Free accommodation is part of the deal at each hostel.
Please submit cover letter and resume as soon as possible. Consideration of candidates will begin immediately.
