Meat Department Supervisor/Manager Job Description
Position Title: Meat Department Supervisor/Manager
Reporting To: Store Manager or Assistant Store Manager
Summary
Managing the meat department, including cutting, ordering, staff and merchandising
Duties and Responsibilities
The Meat Department Supervisor plays an integral role in a store's successful operation. Department Supervisors are challenged with the key task of maintaining and improving the day to day operation of the department. This position requires a positive attitude and the ability to effectively multi-task. Key responsibilities include, customer service, achieving budgeted sales and gross margin, merchandising, maintaining and managing department inventory, running marketing events and programs, pricing, staff issues such as scheduling, training and managing labour costs, as well as administrative duties.
The meat products that the Meat Department Supervisor are expected to have knowledge in cutting and merchandising are Beef, Pork, Chicken, Turkey, Wild Game, Bison, Duck, Fish as well as preparing these meats in various manners, ie. Sausage, marinades.
Human Resources 
Ensures cutters/wrapper staff comply with all store policies and operating procedures.
Trains and schedules cutters and wrappers in job functions.
Provides on-going guidance and instruction.
Loss prevention
Ensures all loss prevention programs are implemented to standard, tracking sheets
Customer Service 
Ensure store staff present proper image to the public in accordance with policy) ie: clean appearance, approved uniform, apron)
Answers enquiries regarding location of product, preparation, etc.
Resolves customer issues according to established guidelines
Merchandising around Meat Dept.
Ensures coolers are clean and organized with proper rotation
Ensures special product displays are set up and taken down to schedule
Other 
Performs all duties and responsibilities of Supervisor
Ensures standards of housekeeping and image are maintained.
Complies with all Health and Safety requirements: supervises employees to ensure correct work procedures are followed, communicates hazard information and control procedures, consults employees and provides feedback to management, cooperates with Health and Safety representative, holds accountable any employees reporting to them.
Management / Supervision/Leadership Skills Required
Planning, Judgment and Decision Making
Independent thinking as it relates to organizing store.
Problem solving is essential to ensure customer satisfaction
Plan work to maximize efficiency and minimize costs
Cut and Stock appropriate inventory levels
Work in a fast paced environment safely
Develop department cleaning program
Maintain system of inventory control
Plan regular inventory count
Experience
Ability to lift 75+ lbs.
Able to cut and wrap all meat (Beef, Pork, Chicken, Turkey, Wild Game, Bison, Duck, Fish as well as preparing these meats in various manners, ie. Sausage, marinades)
Customer service oriented
Computer literate
Organized
Efficient time management skills
Familiarity with retail business
Knowledge of products and supplies
