JOB DESCRIPTION MANUAL

TITLE: Custodian II FT Continuous

Compensation: $25.44 - $28.53

Hours of work: 8 hours per day/40 per week

Days of work: Schedule to be determined

REPORTS TO: Facility Manager

PRIMARY PURPOSE: To ensure the Municipal Facilities are clean and disinfected to provide for a safe, enjoyable experience for the clients while preserving and protecting all properties of the Municipality of Jasper.

QUALIFICATIONS: (NOTE: all awards must be current)

MINIMUM:

18 years of age
Standard First Aid/CPR
Ability to lift 20kg
PREFERRED:

Previous janitorial experience
Training/Experience a variety of janitorial techniques
Class V Driver’s License - Clean Abstract to be provided
SKILLS REQUIRED:

Act as an ambassador for the Community Development department, Municipality of Jasper, Council & Staff;
Excellent Verbal communication skills
Ability to operate janitorial equipment
Ability to deal effectively with the public & co-workers
Ability to work without direct supervision
Team player
Ability to multi-task
Knowledgeable in the refinishing techniques on floor & wall surfaces ie: hardwoods, drywall, plywood, ceramic tile, linoleum, rubber and asphalt planking
W.H.I.M.I.S. certification and/or training
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. As a member of a team, and as the policy and procedures dictate, ensure the Activity Centre remains welcoming, clean and safe. Work includes but is not limited to:

Assigning work and establishing priorities, train new staff and provides ongoing training/refreshers on new techniques, products etc, correct use of equipment and maintenance of it, painting, basic plumbing, and minor building maintenance;
Monitor work of other custodial staff;
Cleaning and disinfecting the Activity centre and external office space;
Cleaning and polishing office and lobby floors;
General cleaning, including windows, walls, doors, cabinets, desks, garbage’s and recycling;
Cleaning and sanitizing bathroom showers, floors, fixtures and countertops;
Stocking paper goods and changing light bulbs;
To follow procedures relative to building security.
This position may be required to work weekends, nights and or holidays.
Work closely with the Facility Manager and Arena Manager for scheduling of events and programs.
2. Understand and follow all Municipal and Facility Policy and Procedures, including the Health and Safety program, to ensure the Municipal Facilities remains safe, clean and healthy. Regularly review same.

3. Understand and follow all Emergency Procedures, participate in training to ensure appropriate emergency response and follow up. Regularly review same.

4. Understand and follow the Collective Agreement between the Municipality and C.U.P.E. local 1458. Regularly review same.

5. Promote and support the staff, programs and services of the Municipality.

6. As facility needs dictate, perform various administrative or operational duties as assigned.

This position will be specific to the Jasper Fitness & Aquatic Centre and the Wildflowers Childcare Centre. The successful applicant will work closely with the Managers of each facility. Hours of work are flexible.

Staff housing could be available for the right candidate.
