MST, March 16, 2026 ABOUT THE POSITION Reporting to the Licensing and Enforcement Manager, the Community Peace Officer (CPO) Level 1 promotes community safety, livability, and voluntary compliance through the fair and consistent enforcement and education of Municipal Bylaws and designated Provincial Statutes. The CPO provides information, education, and enforcement services to residents, visitors, and businesses, ensuring balanced and professional delivery of municipal compliance functions. The position includes responsibilities for traffic enforcement under provincial authorization and the administration of Animal Control services within the Municipality of Jasper. WORK PERFORMED Public Education and Community Engagement Promote voluntary compliance through public education, patrol presence, and direct community interaction. Participate in and deliver public education initiatives, including school and community presentations. Engage professionally with residents, visitors, and businesses. Collaborate with Parks Canada, the RCMP, and other enforcement and emergency partners. Law, Bylaw, and Traffic Enforcement Enforce Municipal Bylaws and designated Provincial Statutes of Alberta. Conduct moving and non-moving traffic enforcement. Administer Animal Control operations, including the capture, transport, impoundment, and care of domestic animals. Prepare investigative files, notes, reports, and disclosure packages for enforcement action or court proceedings. Patrol, Monitoring, and Complaint Investigation Conduct foot, vehicle, and bicycle patrols. Respond to, assess, and investigate complaints; gather evidence and determine appropriate enforcement or compliance actions. Follow and promote Occupational Health and Safety practices. QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE Your resume and cover letter must clearly describe how you meet the following qualifications: Required Post-secondary diploma in Law Enforcement, Police and Justice Studies, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and enforcement experience. Completion of the Solicitor General’s Community Peace Officer Induction Training and all requirements for appointment under the Peace Officer (Ministerial) Regulation. Successful completion of the physical ability requirement evaluation (PARE) or equivalent physical abilities test no longer than 6 months prior to employment date. Qualification in Baton and OC Spray; ability to meet annual recertification standards. Valid Alberta Class 5 Operator’s License. Standard First Aid and CPR certification. Ability to obtain and maintain Enhanced Reliability Security Clearance and Provincial CPO appointment. Minimum 18 years of age. Assets / Preferred Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in law enforcement or municipal enforcement. Experience conducting and enforcing traffic laws including moving violations. Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC) trained. Training defensive tactics, and report writing. Knowledge of crime prevention through environmental design (CPTED) and community education or engagement programs. Proficiency with Law Enforcement record management system e.g. Report Exec, MOVES and Microsoft Office applications. Equivalencies may be considered on the basis of one year experience for one year of education. Candidates with lower qualifications are encouraged to apply and may be considered at a lower classification and pay.
