Duties
As part of the vegetation management team, you will support a wide range of projects that aim to maintain and improve ecological integrity throughout Jasper National Park.

Duties include:
Actively managing non-native vegetation using a variety of integrated techniques, including prevention methods, manual control, and herbicide application.
Supporting restoration and reclamation activities related to invasive vegetation management, wildfire protection, and wildlife habitat improvement.
Coordinating vegetation fieldwork in front country and back country locations. Fieldwork involves hiking long distances on and off trail, over varied or strenuous terrain, at times in remote locations or overnight.
Monitoring vegetation trends using established protocols. Collect, manage, and analyse vegetation and spatial data.
Assist with supervising and training seasonal staff.
Providing support for additional projects within the fire, vegetation and ecological monitoring programs.

Intent of the process
The results of this process will be used to fill anticipated vacancy(ies) of approximately 6 months. Successful candidates will be expected to start employment in April 2025.

The results of this process may be used in the future to fill permanent or temporary vacancies that may arise at the EG-02 or EG-03 group/level in the Jasper Field Unit with full or part-time hours for various tenures, such as: Indeterminate, Term, Acting Assignment or Assignment at level, depending on status of the selected candidate.

EDUCATION
Stream 1 (EG-02) - Minimum completion of two years of a post-secondary program related to environmental and/or natural sciences (e.g. biology, ecology, geology), or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience in a field related to the position.

Stream 2 (EG-03) - Graduation with a degree or diploma from a recognized university or college with specialization in environmental and/or natural sciences (e.g. biology, ecology, forestry) or other discipline relevant to the position; or an acceptable combination of two years of a post-secondary education with training and experience in a field related to the position. Preference may be given to candidates with university degrees.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE
(Both Streams)
Experience in travelling or working in wilderness areas, under various climatic conditions;
Experience using a variety of data/sample collection equipment and means of transportation.

Stream 1 (EG-02)
Experience collecting data/samples on vegetation, fauna water and soil;
Experience applying scientifically and technically recognized methods and protocols.

Stream 2 (EG-03)
Experience participating in two (2) or more phases of vegetation management or monitoring projects (design, logistics, active management, data/sample collection, data analysis, presentation of results);
Experience contributing to the preparation of technical/scientific reports or public presentations.

Ability to follow procedures and protocols for data/sample collection and compilation, and to conduct active resource management activities;
Ability to use a variety of computer applications in the development and maintenance of databases;

Stream 2 (EG-03)
Ability to assist in the preparation and presentation of technical reports and to communicate with a variety of audiences using variety of techniques.

Possession of Wilderness First Aid and CPR certificate
ASSET EXPERIENCE
Experience in vegetation identification (native and non-native)
Experience in work planning and supervising crews
Experience in safe application of herbicides in accordance with legal and policy requirements of AB/BC/SK or other; as demonstrated by a certificate or license.
Experience in ecological restoration or reclamation activities and techniques.
OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Willingness to wear a Parks Canada uniform and prescribed protective equipment
Willingness to work and/or travel in varied terrain, weather conditions, isolated locations and by various means of transportation
Willingness to work irregular hours, overtime, weekends and/or statutory holidays and provincial/territorial holidays, when required
Will be required to obtain a pesticide applicator certification
Will be required to undergo, pass, and maintain Wilderness First Aid and CPR certification.
