Position available:  Bylaw Enforcement Officer  

Municipal department:  Protective & Legislative Services

Status:  Full-Time Continuous

Compensation:  $32.02 - $35.77 determined by candidates’ level of certification

About the position:  

The primary purpose of this position is to enforce the Municipality of Jasper’s Bylaws in a consistent and efficient manner; as well as investigating inquiries and public complaints, including Animal Control. 

The start date of this position is as soon as possible.

Work performed:  

Under the direction of the Licensing and Enforcement Manager:

Ensures enforcement of the Bylaws of the Municipality of Jasper;
Accomplishes, wherever possible, voluntary compliance with Bylaws;
Enforces Bylaws by issuing violation tickets,  traffic tags, serving summonses and subpoenas, and through the preparation of related legal documents;
Investigates Bylaw to prepare for court proceedings;
Responds to public complaints and inquiries about Bylaw infractions and tickets;
Follows up on tickets to ensure collection, including court preparation and attendance for violation tickets issued;
Conducts foot, vehicle and other patrols as required;
Impounds and ensures the safety and well-being of loose, dangerous or abandoned domestic animals in the Town of Jasper and operates the domestic animal control compound;
Cooperates with the Parks Canada Warden Service on manners of domestic-wildlife encounters within the Town;
Maintains records of infractions and licenses as required;
Acquires and maintains an understanding of the context and functioning of local government in Jasper, including the Municipality of Jasper’s relationship with Jasper National Park and the Parks Canada Agency;
Works effectively with, and maintains positive relationships with, other staff members and departments of the Municipality of Jasper;
Becomes familiar with and carries out duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Health & Safety Manual approved by the Municipality along with Occupational Health & Safety regulations;
Participates in the proper operation of the Municipal vehicle impound and storage facility; and
Undertakes other operational and public safety duties as required.


Qualifications & experience:   Your resume and cover letter must clearly describe how you meet the following minimum qualifications:

Grade 12 Diploma;
Training in law enforcement or a combination of education and experience satisfactory to the employer;
A valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License;
A current Standard First Aid Certificate;
Previous experience in law enforcement or a related field;
Ability to successfully complete the Physical Attributes Test for Uniformed Officers (PARE) test;
Ability to obtain Community Peace Officer Level 1 status
