Full job description
The primary function of this position is to create, prepare and deliver developmentally appropriate, interesting and imaginative activities for the children attending our program. The successful candidate will be able to meet the needs of each individual as well as the needs of the group in their daily practice. It is essential for the individual to have excellent interpersonal skills and work effectively within a dynamic, innovative team environment. Experience and/or training working with children with diverse needs is an asset. In addition, this individual will spend a lot of time outside and fulfill some light housekeeping duties.

The Assistant Manager is responsible for overseeing the planning, implementing, and supervising of Out of School Care activities to meet the physical, emotional, intellectual, and social needs of children in the program in accordance with all relevant legislation, policies, and procedures. The Assistant Manager will support early childhood educators in their daily activities, assist with developing programs and activities for children, and promote a welcoming and positive environment. They will also assist the Childcare Services Manager with the hiring and orientation process, employee performance reviews, and with the day-to-day operations of the programs. The Assistant Manager will build positive and respectful relationships with children and parents, and ensure that equipment and facilities are clean, safe, and well maintained.

The start date of this position is as soon as

possible with an end date of March 31, 2026.

Work Performed

Ensure safety and welfare of each child, educators and visitors to the program
Coordinate staff scheduling
Support the educators with planning, documentation and understanding of Flight, Alberta’s curriculum framework.
Ensure educators are designing and maintain a developmentally appropriate learning environment for children
Maintain close communication with fellow educators on the development and progress of each child, offering support and guidance if needed.
Supervise, support and mentor all educators, practicum students and administrative staff
Participate in the hiring and orientation of new educators
Promote and maintain harmonious relationships between childcare staff
Encourage participation of all staff in problem solving independently
Participate in room planning sessions to ensure well-coordinated and effective service delivery
Deliver feedback and input to the manager for annual employee growth plans.
Prepare monthly newsletters and correspondence with families
Organize, attend and participate in all staff meetings and team meetings
Maintain provincial standards and regulations and keep up to date with current child care philosophy
Initiate, establish and maintain a continuing positive and supportive relationship with families
Perform parent orientations for new to Out of School Care families
Explain the operation and functions of the childcare programs to parents, other educators and the community
The rate of pay will be based on the successful candidates’ level of certification.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Your resume and cover letter must clearly describe how
you meet the following qualifications:

Alberta Early Learning and Child Care Educator Level 3 or higher certification. (Level 2 is acceptable if working toward Level 3.)
Valid CPR & Childcare or Standard First Aid;
Demonstrated leadership abilities
Favourable Criminal Record Check and Child Intervention Check.
Understanding of Flight, Alberta’s ELCC curriculum framework is an asset
