Title: Retail Buying Assistant
Terms: Full-time, year-round employment
Reports to: General Manager

The Friends of Jasper National Park are looking for a Retail Buying Assistant to be part of our dynamic team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the management of the physical inventory process as well as assisting with the buying processes and visual merchandising for our fundraising gift shop. This is an important part of our fundraising efforts as all proceeds from our shop support programs and projects in the Park.

Key Responsibilities:

Assist with coordinating effective store planning:

Ensure FJNP retail brand (both in-store and online) is consistent with organizational vision;
Assist with planning of in-store merchandising and displays;
Execute merchandise plans and support visual merchandising to create a consistent story;
Develop product knowledge, monitor market trends and source relevant products for gift shop;
Attend gift shows, as needed, to plan for annual store changes; and
Assist with revising and implementing sales strategies and plans
Manage the physical inventory process:

Implement material handling procedures;
Create purchase orders and receive inventory;
Monitor inventory control procedures;
Track all purchases, sales & transfers with computerized point of sale software; and
Implement safety and security policies.
Be responsible for all aspects of operating a sales outlet, including:

Act as an ambassador for the Friends of Jasper National Park by greeting visitors, answering questions and providing information about the organization and Jasper National Park;
Accurately process sales using a computerized point of sale system;
Reconcile payments, cash drawer and complete daily bank deposit;
Provide excellent customer service in all interactions with visitors, volunteers and co-workers;
Develop and maintain a broad knowledge of FJNP products and opportunities to best assist visitors;
Follow FJNP policies and guidelines for maintaining consistent, quality standards of customer service, cleanliness, merchandising, stocking, health and safety and more; and
Use online communication tools as part of day-to-day operations.
Maintain good public and customer relations for the store:

Assist with organizing sales-related events and experiential programs;
Assist with store marketing and branding, including social media;
Assist with online gift shop products, sales and experience;
Work on special projects, as needed;
Encourage stewardship and connections to Jasper National Park by informing visitors of FJNP programs, projects and volunteer opportunities;
Inspire support for the Friends of Jasper National Park by informing visitors of membership and donation opportunities;
Support the organization in maintaining a high level of morale by fostering a positive workplace environment; and
Complete duties and/or training opportunities in other areas of the organization including (but not limited to) programs, projects and special events.
Skills & Qualifications:

The successful candidate for this position will have:

a passion for wild spaces, the outdoors and Jasper National Park;
outstanding customer service and communication skills (preference may be given to candidates who are proficient in both of Canada’s official languages);
some post-secondary education in a related field or equivalent work-related experience;
experience in a retail environment, including use of computerized register and cash handling;
interest, experience and eye for retail market trends, product purchasing and visual merchandising;
superior cash handling skills and experience with point of sale software;
strong computer skills, working in a Microsoft environment, with preference given to those with social media experience;
strong organizational skills with attention to detail;
the ability to multi-task is a multi-faceted position;
self-motivation, with an ability to work well on own or with others;
the ability to work with visitors, volunteers and co-workers in a friendly, positive, and professional manner;
the ability to work as a team player, with a focus on flexibility and adaptability;
a valid driver’s license;
physical ability to lift and carry boxes and to stand for long periods of time;
valid first aid and CPR certification (or obtain before the start date); and
a criminal record and enhanced security check (before the start date).
