Job Description

The Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge Golf Resort is seeking applications for the position of Golf Course Superintendent. Established in 1925 and designed by renowned Canadian architect Stanley Thompson, our golf course is approaching its 100th Anniversary, presenting an exciting & unique opportunity to lead and oversee impactful restoration projects. In this role, you will be responsible for all aspects of course maintenance and agronomy, including turf management, irrigation, team leadership, and budget planning. We are looking for a candidate who excels in operational management while upholding a strategic vision, ensuring the course maintains its exceptional standards of sustainability, condition, and aesthetic appeal. As the Golf Course Superintendent, you will play a vital role in preserving the prestigious reputation of what is widely recognized as Canada’s #1 Golf Resort and help create memorable experiences for our guests.

Competitive Salary: $100,000 - $110,000 gross annually, based on previous experience and education

What you will be doing:

Reporting to the Director of Golf Operations, responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:

Oversee all phases of golf course maintenance, including greens, fairways, roughs, bunkers and naturalized areas.
Develop and implement sustainable turf grass management programs, including aeration, top dressing and pest management.
Responsible for the understanding of the operation and maintenance of all components of the golf course irrigation system.
360 degree colleague management including training, recruiting, mentoring, planning, scheduling & evaluating.
Budgeting and resource management
Supervise the application and recording of chemical applications
Assist with Capital Projects including the preparation of landscapes
Lead projects such as green site re surfacing, bunker restoration and Capital Projects
Develop and manage annual maintenance budget in collaboration with Director of Golf Operations.
Report equipment problems or failures immediately
Follow all safety and sanitation policies
Adhere to the hotel’s vehicle handling and safety policies while driving hotel and guest vehicles
Environmental stewardship and key role in the relationship with Parks Canada
Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Your experience and skills include:

5-7 years of experience as a Golf Course Superintendent or 1st Assistant Superintendent
2-year degree or certificate in Turf Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, plant science or related field.
Pesticide Applicators License required
Strong understanding of financial management, including budget development, forecasting and cost control
CPR and First Aid certifications are assets
Knowledge of turf and irrigation systems required
Knowledge of golf course architecture and design principles is an asset.
Strong interpersonal skills to foster positive relationships with staff, pass holders and community of Jasper
Previous experience in working in a Rocky Mountain climate or similar.
Excellent communication and organizational skills
Strong interpersonal and problem solving abilities
Highly responsible & reliable
Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment
Ability to work cohesively with fellow colleagues as part of a team with minimum supervision
Ability to focus attention on guest needs, remaining calm and courteous at all times

Bending/reaching: 4-6 hr/day
Pushing/pulling: 4-6 hr/day
Physical effort: required to lift up to 50lbs
